For our customer Whitworth Bros. Ltd., Bühler + Scherler carried out a special project in Worksop, England. A state of the art maize mill was installed as a replacement for the old mill, without any downtime in production, within the existing Victorian building.

The project extended over two years. It started in autumn 2023, and the new mill was completed and commissioned in summer 2025. During this time, the new mill was fully erected, electrically connected, and integrated step by step into the existing environment.

Responsibility for planning, installation, and infrastructure
In this project, Bühler + Scherler was responsible for the entire electrical planning and installation of the new mill. This included the complete process cabling as well as the power supply from medium voltage through the transformer down to the low-voltage distribution.
In addition, Bühler + Scherler took over key infrastructure tasks within the mill, such as planning and installing the lighting, implementing the fire alarm system, and selected sanitary installations.

Tight space conditions and ongoing production as challenges
The structural situation was particularly demanding due to the very limited space in some parts of the building. This required precise and forward-looking planning.
In addition, the existing maize mill in the same building remained in production throughout the entire project phase, in some areas overlapping spatially with the new mill. This required close coordination, high flexibility, and strict safety precautions. We are proud that our Bühler + Scherler team can realize large-scale conversion and new-build projects safely and efficiently even under such conditions.

Modern, hygienic electrical installation with minimal downtime
Whitworth Bros. Ltd. now benefits from a state-of-the-art electrical installation with high reliability and future viability. The high-quality execution of the electrical installation also ensures a particularly hygienic design, which is especially important in food processing. At the same time, downtime of the existing mill during the energy supply upgrade was reduced to a minimum.

In this way, Bühler + Scherler is helping Whitworth Bros. Ltd. to secure its production in a historic building with cutting-edge milling technology and a reliable power supply on a long term basis.
